  • E-Pharmacy is the new wave in Indian eCommerce

Over the past decade, the Indian eCommerce industry has evolved from an online book store to a full-fledged convenience store where a consumer can order just about anything under the sun. And now, the next wave in industry is E-Pharmacy, which is expected to gain 8% market share by the end of 2020. According to a recent survey by Research wing of Chitrangana, more than 60% Internet users in Germany buy medication online. In India, a few pharmacy outlets have already set up websites providing home delivery services. However, they are still a long way from competing with portals dealing with food, groceries or garments.Chitrangana.com, India’s leading eCommerce consultancy, believes the potential of the E-Pharmacy industry is untapped, especially since medicines are a recurring requirement for the average consumer. The Govt. of India’s new Draft eCommerce policy should serve as a shot in the arm to ambitious start-ups trying to compete with global giants such as Amazon and Walmart. Seeing as the policy is designed to benefit the Indian consumer and/or retailer, the Govt. of India deserves a ton of praise - Chitrangana.comIt’s not a well-kept secret, at least in industry circles, that international eCommerce players do everything within the rulebook to bypass the Indian taxation system. Registered in foreign countries, they are booking losses in India, before funnelling income out of the country in the name of technology development, marketing and license fees. The new Draft eCommerce policy will support start-ups and the Indian business ecosystem. The policy has strongly recommended data localization, giving new firms a two-year sunset period to adjust before localization becomes mandatory. It has also advised direct and indirect tax incentives."Besides data localization, the policy, that has received staunch opposition from Flipkart and Amazon, has also proposed a single legislation to address all aspects of digital economy. While proposing a solitary ...

Chitrangana, India’s biggest eCcommerce consultancy, believe the online industry has regained momentum after a drop off in 2017 in the aftermath of demonetisation. Chitrangana, industry experts in the e-commerce sphere, have projected a 45% growth on YOY basis for the 2018-19 season, just a year after the web retail business saw a drop off due to demonetisation of Rs. 500 and Rs. 1,000 notes. Chitrangana believes the extraordinary growth in 2018-2019 is also due to comparison with 2017’s negative growth due to demonetisation, which built up a deficit in the previous fiscal. At the time of demonetisation, a few e-commerce giants reported a steep fall in sales, mainly due to fewer Cash on Delivery (CoD) orders. However, Chitrangana is convinced that fresh shoppers from tier 2, 3 cities will amount to a minimum of 25 percent growth in the industry. The consultants cited the mobile internet revolution for the growth of new customers in the blossoming e-commerce industry. The report also projected a 7% rise in customer base in metro cities, which will add up to ...
